Climate Change and Adaptation

Windle is working hard to integrate climate change curriculum and projects into all of our programming. Please check this page for continuing updates as we further develop this curriculum.

WIK Interventions

In 2023, WIK developed several programmes aimed at increasing knowledge and awareness of the the impact climate change on the communities we serve. Two interventions were implemented:

  • Agroforestry: WIK promoted planting trees in schools, refugee camps, and communities. Trees not

only help to mitigate climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide but also provide multiple benefits,

such as reducing soil erosion, improving water quality, and providing shade. We have also supported

the establishment of School Environment Conservation Clubs, which spearhead school tree-planting

exercises. The trees replenish the environment and provide fruits and shade to learners.

  • Water Harvesting: We supported the construction of water harvesting structures such as rainwater

harvesting tanks. This helps conserve water, becoming increasingly scarce due to climate change,

and provides a reliable water source for households and school farms.
